Poor old Bp6 diead on me I think :(
Hey all... been using my beloved old BP6 as ftp server and storage for ages....went on vacation a few weeks back and uplugged all pcs from power.
When I came back, BP6 won't post... I start it up and nada.... then after 10-15 seconds a short beep...10 secs another short beep....
Tried to reboot and clear CMOS many times and mostly get the same odd beeps...sometimes a little different...
I even purchased and put in a new BIOS battery...still nada
In the weeks up to my vacation it had been freezing on my and had problems rebooting ... Could it simply be worn out?

no, it's just showing signs of capacitor bulge.
or, the psu has had it.
try unplugging all drives and extras so the PSU only has to drive the mobo and vga card.
see if it starts easier.
PSU might not be able to cope with power load anymore.
check the fan on the PSU is running.
check the PSU for dust build up, don't kill yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad caps are the main reason for unstable and non-working BP6's out there. You can find pictures on what that looks like all over this site if you look for it. I am with Dave Rave on this one, I think your caps are dead.-.-PhanTom-.- wrote:Hmmm well... two of the caps, at the bottom side of the CPU socket are tilting slightly...but think they have always been that way... Have not been pushing them around as far as I know..

There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

My mail to ABit>
Their reply>
1) does it matter?...they should ALL be replaced as they are all faulty
2) No idea...I would hope that Abit would know their own product, right?
3) Again, would not know 100% - Abit should know!
4) Well, yes I did, Both in the subject tittle of my email and on the request form...duh!
Just in case...does someone have an EXACT list of the capacitors needed?
Code: Select all
Last week my beloved BP6 mother apparently died on for no reason.
It had started shwoing problems....freezing in windows, problems rebooting etc... now it won''t even boot.
had been running smotthly for many months..
Reading on www.bp6.com, I see that there is a known problem with bad capacitors which was used on a lot of older motherboards, and the site says that I can RMA my board - is this true?
If so, how?
I cannot use http://rma.abit-usa.com as I live in Denmark...so how do I do it?
My thoughts on the above - feel free to comment:Dear customer,
and the site says that I can RMA my board - is this true? No, that counts only for ABIT USA, not for ABIT Europe.
We can send you (for free) the caps and you (or someone else) can try to replace them.
For that i need to have some answers on the following questions:
1. how many caps are blown up or leaking?
2. what is written on the Caps? (brand, how many uF)
3. How many of the same colour and size are on the MB?
4. If not mentioned before what MB model we are talking about?
5. what is your delivery adress?
