which is the most efficient way to run my dual PIII mobo?

I have a none BP6 dual mobo (shame!

) with dual PIII's.

This board also is running dual PIII 1100E's just like my BP6.

However, it has an option (Gigabyte GA-6XTDR) that will allow me to run the CPU's @ their normal clock speed (100 mhz) and set the FSB to 133 (I have a gig of PC133, 4 256 meg sticks, CAS2).

I am presently running both the cpu's and the ram at 112 mhz.

Would there be any advantage to switching to 100/133?

Would I even be able to teel the diference?

I use this box for video and DVD editing and authoring and is stable in it's present configuration (I just can't seem to leave well enough alone!

).

it's probably a memory clock speed option
in case you still had pc100 memory instead of pc133

No, its' an option in the BIOS designed into the BIOS by Gigabyte.

I can set cpu's to 100/100 or 100/133 or I have set clock speeds (cpu's and fsb) of 100, 112, 124, or 133 mhz.

I am presently at 112 mhz for both cpu's and fsb.

You didn't identify what the P-IIIs were. Are we talking Slot-1 cpus?

What you are using this rig for will dictate whether or not you will get any value out of risking OC'ing.

As much as most AMD devotees dog Intel...my own experience has been that any Intel cpus will take OC'ing if properly cooled, and most can easily handle one/third over rated speed as long as that doesn't cross the maximum for that series core. Of course my slot-1 experiments peak about 25percent OC.
Try the the P3s at 133.

These are PIII 1100E socket 370, 1100/256/100/1.75volt.

Stable @ 112 fsb, idle @ 98 deg. F, full load about 128 deg. F, Via Apollo Pro has a mini-peltier and runs at 79 to 85 deg. F @ idle and no more than 102 deg. F under full load.

My next FSB jump is to 124 and I don't think these cpu's will make it, although, I do have a pair of old GlobalWIN FEP32's with 95 watt pelt's on them but can't seem to get them to fit right on the PIII's (used them to hit 605 with my 366 celeron's on my BP6).

I have a Matrox G400 MAX 32 meg dual head AGP card that may be a stumbling block for hitting 124?

My only other option is to go to 1.4 gig PIII's that run at 133 on this mobo.

My budget doesn't allow for cpu AND mobo upgrades at this time!

That being said, I still think you ought to give 133 a try before you look at anything else. Make sure you have good air flow during the initial test. I will be suprised if the 1100s don't become 1.4gig P-IIIs.

Well it looks like my Gigabyte box is down for a while. System crashed caused by constant conflicts between VIA chipset, Matrox drivers, Creative SBLive 5.1 drivers and Windoz 2000 Pro.

I'v lived with this issue on both the BP6 (2000, creative ) and the dual Gigabyte box for some time now. Thought I had it fixed, oh well.

Talked to Matrox and Creative (SBLive doesn't support 5.1 in 2000 Pro, had to use a package call "The KX Project" and have problems with dual monitors in streatch mode in both boxes).

The "fix", if you will, is to goto XP Pro according to Matrox and Creative!

OBTW, both boxes have the same hardware, dual PIII 1100E's, the same vid cards, the same sound cards, etc. The only major differences are:

The amount of RAM (BP6 768, Gigabyte 1 gig)

The clock speed (minor at best, BP6 110 fsb and Gigabyte 112 fsb)

The chip set (BX440 VS. Via Apollo Pro 133)

Guess which box is quicker?

If only it were as stable as the Gigabyte box!
