oh, this is sweet.
now that I've actually done it, and stopped thinking about it and what might go wrong.

and my friend even has a camera, so there will be pictures.
the nice video site, has a good idea range of pictures, and the video is somewhat simple so as to not be too long.

our pictures are not arty, or anywhere ample, but i remembered to take some. and stay out of them too....

anyhoo, having got it all together, in one afternoon, we watered it, started it up, and then re-started the computer.

i'll get the piccies up, and get some better comentary into them, so the flow and funny bits make more sense

I saw the Reserator in an on-line shop the other day. It's a nice looking bit of kit.

Use "code", "/code"

PS. we had storms in our area today, yay rain.
but my cable modem won't ethernet, boohoo.
so my LAN is not smoothwall LAN anymore, for the moment.
I'm on USB access (same modem) and ICS
hence, different address, and I can't get to whatsies computers to get his photos, or even check the temp, as I restricted it to my IP address.
smoothwall is good, but now,. oh the humanity.

cpu idle was at 42degrees, twin seti at 62 degrees
but the northbridge was HOT! (expletive deleted hot)

the zalman is running through the

lid ON
and showing 50 degrees.
NOT BAD !!!

i put the previews from the Casio 2 megapixel up on geocities.
they show as a good size in the web browser, the actual pics are 800kb each. might put them up if ytou want more detail, later.

I'll get around to annotating these at some stage.

Intel 3.0ghz HT
gigabyte northbridge AND
ati radeon 9600 vgu
lid ON
and showing 50 degrees.
NOT BAD !!!

now it's cooler (winter) and there is a fan blowing the air around the blue cooling tower,...
remember, HT 24/7 seti 3.0ghz cpu
and northbridge and vga card
38 degrees.... constant.

well, I'm a lazy son-of-a-bitch.
but ......

Take one high-end mobo
with a fairly latest greatest cpu
a great(ish) vga card and a cool looking case.
put it all together, and it's too darn hot.

we'll start with

the cute little sexy black number
Antec Overture

putting in a Gigabyte 8I-PE1000 Pro 2
that's the one with SATA drive sockets and gigabit Lan

NB: the big NorthBridge cooler, yellow, big letters on it, between the AGP slot and the CPU socket.
It's going !!

put in two pieces of pretty blue ram

This is the ATI Radeon 9600XT video card

you can see the lovely heatsink, it wraps around the card,
and cools both sides.

the other side - note the four part

indents that touch on the ram chips

this is after I had already taken off the heatsink, so this is the card with the sinks just placed roughly in position where they were.

then there is the video card after I've taken off the heatsinks.

such lovely heatsinks too, both sides, wrap around, all enclosing .....

water cooling block placed so you can see how

much of the processor it is covering.
the block has adjustable arms (silver) which screw into the sides, and also screw into the card through the standard fixing holes.
so it will fit pretty much any size / configuration.

here you can see the memory chips on the

back that are where the dimples in the heatsink sat on

doesn't everyone have a half drunk 4l bottle

of Mineral Turps, just lying around ?

decided on a horizontal mount for the

water block. It faces straight out the back of
the case and we'll worry about the routing of the pipes later.

yup, whatever this was showing, I'm

glad it made so much sense. you can tell it was important.

the 3.0Ghz cpu in it's socket

the geil memory in place and the
soon to be gone northbridge chip

this is an extra video card water block ordered

for the northbridge. see !?, it will fit just nice.

popping the holding posts and carefully prying up

the sides will release the northbridge cooler.
file it away in a safe place , needed it back later.

uhm ...

the main cpu water block already in place, and

the vga water block in place on the northbridge.
decided to face it this way so it sort of faces the pipe out the back
for a loop around back into the video card.

that is the whole blue plastic pipe supplied with the

kit. heaps for the average joe.....
lucky there was so much, we used it all.

planning the pipe routing, northbridge out the back

to the vga card. not too short, not too long.
too short and it would knink at the middle of the bend.
too long and the loop blew out the sides and it kinked there.

uhm ..

oh, putting in the rails to hold down the cpu water block.
nice kit, comes with different holders for p4 and AMD and psomething else

short piece on the case to vga card in place (by hand)

you can see how much we (don't) need to get the cpu block back to the back of the case.

putting little heatsinks on the memory chips

there was heaps int he kit too. good stuff.

heat sinks, both sides.

just like a porkypine.

and the short piece to the watr flange

that goes on the case pci slot.

but on mine computer i'm doing crunching...and that means that the CPU delivers more heat than the GPU...so i definitely need a parallel cooling for CPU & GPU...but N/B can go in serial with the GPU...

does the Zalman Reserator have that option?!

also i'm thinking about more of those towers for heat disipation put in parallel...why?!
'cause i want to cool down the both computers in my room that way...they also go up to 80degC...and that is HOT!!!

all my computers do S@H crunching

I got the VGA block because it was available.
the VGA kit comes with two blocks, for different cards.
So I used the spare block on the NorthBridge.
very worth it, as the northbridge was so hot.

the Later Reserator Plus comes with a northbridge block, with vertical water sockets.
the cpu block is updated.
and vga block is included too, not extra.
plus the water pipes into the computer case come with quick release plugs instead of leaving the pipes attached permanent.

remember, I already noted the heat from MBM showing at 60 degrees. my reserator is doing all three heat outputs and the system is cooler.

I have found a crap though....
the voltage converters betweeen the cpu socket and external plugs (kb/ps2) don't get any airflow as the cpu fan is now missing. and they get hot.
so i put an 8cm fan in between the water pipes to blow air over them. wouldn't want to fry a capacitor, now.
