Re: Memory Not Adding up
What you have is High Density or Double Sided memory. The BP6 is made to work with Low Density or Single Sided memory. Both high and low density 256MB sticks of memory are 32x64. 256MB ECC is 32x72.urchyn wrote:Just upped the memory to 3 256 Meg SDram but it only registers 384??? Put one chip in and it only registers 128mb did I get sold bad ram or is there something I am missing?
Thanks
nobbe: If your RAM is not showing up at all in one slot, it's unlikely to be because it's hi-density, because that usually shows up as half the amount of RAM it should, not none at all.
Some people have run into trouble filling all three memory slots in the way you describe. When I fitted 3*256M sticks (which I'm running now) I was no longer able to overclock my 366 Celerons to 550. I run them at 500MHz now.
What PSU are you using in your BP6? You might be stretching it a bit and better/cleaner currents may enable you to use all your RAM. Possibly.

This site may help anyone who's not sure what memory to buy. You can type in your motherboard make and model and it will find the right types for you.

I wonder if it is against forum etiquette to resurrect a topic after it has slept for a year. If so, I apologise in advance.
Now, would it not be nice if forum participants who have 256 MB RAM chips that are working up to their full capacity were to give us info on the chips, such as the manufacturer, the part number or the supplier that provided those chips to them ? I, for one, would be grateful.

Just get low density sticks, a 256MB will have chips on both sides, 16 total I think. I always ask if the memory is "BX" chipset compatible before I buy (usually buy on forums, so the people selling usually know this).

Just go to www.crucial.com and select by your BP6 mobo - you will get all the compatible modules they have. the main point is to get low density modules, the ones which have 8 chips on each side and on both sides - in total 16 chips.
If it is 256mb stick and has 16 chips on it - it will work.
If it is 256mb stick and has in total only 8 chips, either on one side or on both (like 4 chips on each) - it will only detect 128mb.
anything below that will work

Regarding optical drive BIOSs, about eighteen months ago, I flashed the firmware on the Pioneer DVD drive I own, and to this day it's still playing discs from all regions.BCN wrote:go to www.cdfreaks.com - they have everything, if not, just contact me at MSN or PM me and I will send you the flash
YMMV though and all that disclaimer tosh.
