system performance
system performance
I have a GF4 4600 in my dual 546Mhz cpu and was wounding what the average performance you other guys get with ur video cards. My benchmark scores seem low and graphics in games are not reasonable

Re: system performance
kylewo0, 546 Mhz is WAY too slow to max out a Ti4600. Anandtech found that the Ti4600 isn´t even maxed out in 800x600 high detail with an XP @1733. It will be if you enable AA and AF and use a higher resolution. But with a 546 Mhz CPU, you won´t get high fps in newer and rather cpu bound games like UT2003, RTCW or DF:BHD even at low details. You can just go for the eye candy without losing fps. But on a low level. I assume it´s still ok for multiplayer, but definitely too slow for single player games.kylewo0 wrote:I have a GF4 4600 in my dual 546Mhz cpu and was wounding what the average performance you other guys get with ur video cards. BP6, RU BIOS, XP SP3, ACPI, 2x366@523(1,95V), Pentalpha HS + 1x 12cm fan @5V, 768MB, Powercolor Geforce 3, RTL8139D NIC, Terratec EWS64L, Samsung M40 80GB (2,5''), LiteOn CDRW
I'm running Dual celeron 300A @ 495 (110MHz x 4.5) with all the RAM timings and settings tripped out (640MB RAM) using WPCredit and an original 32MB GeForce 256 SDR card and I find I can play RTCW very well at most low resolutions (everything up to and including 1024 x 768 - monitor only handles up to 1280 x 1024 anyway) and is extremely playable.
Not only RTCW, but also GTA3 and Vice City run very well, not to mention Hot Pursuit 2 (although I can't play that at more than 800 x 600 without getting too low FPS). So yeah, I think the BP6 still has a fair bit of life in it even for the gamers.
Just my two pesos.

Still kicking along with the Abit BP6

Kylewo, you might consider going with a DX9 video card like the ABIT Siluro FX-5200/128MB or the FX-5600/256MB. I understand that with the DX9 drivers the CPU has lessof a limiting effect on the GPU performance.
I'm very pleased with my ABIT SiluroFX-5200 in my BP6-P-III/1100E @110Mhz!!!
This card only cost me ~$80 at NewEgg.com

My .02c....
There have been questions concerning how good the 5200/5600 are as DX9 cards. I remember reading reviews of DX9 games that automatically switched one of these cards at least down to DX8.1. Pretty interesting in my opinion.
Also, Doom3 will also be available for Linux (and OS X) which means that it will also support OpenGL. That also means that if you are running Linux, nVidia is the way to go since it kicks ATi's ass when it comes to OpenGL.

Looks like you're right: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQypurrkur wrote: Also, Doom3 will also be available for Linux (and OS X) which means that it will also support OpenGL. Great link Wolfram. This part really piqued my interest:
Talking to John briefly about his overclocking comments made some things clear to us that many enthusiasts will need to be aware of. When he speaks of "new usage patterns" he is literally talking about transistors on some of new GPUs that are going to be used for the first time when you play DOOM 3 on your video card. So be aware that pushing your GPU MHz may get you different results in DOOM 3 than with other games.

Wow this is a first! Only post I've seen him make that wasn't promoting a Promise cardRRLedford wrote:Kylewo, you might consider going with a DX9 video card like the ABIT Siluro FX-5200/128MB or the FX-5600/256MB.
