I did not really feel like posting here while my poor BP6 was off duty, replaced by one of those modern, faceless K8-units, dumped in a dark, cold box, where it's only company were the two Celerons... ...but now it is BACK, equipped with 768MB of the finest PC-133 SDRAM, still suffering from some ba...

If you don't believe me, maybe you believe Microsoft. From http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q305098 The following conditions are necessary for the correct functioning of 48-bit LBA ATAPI support: • A computer with a 48-bit LBA-compatible Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) instal...

BUT there is AFAIK no BIOS that supports large disks. 48bit-LBA support is given through the Microsoft IDE driver (atapi.sys) supplied with Windows, at least if you have XP SP1 or SP2 installed. Wolfram, The above statements are quite misleading. System BIOS's which support 48-bit addressing DO exi...

I would check the memory (memtest86+) and the capacitors (bulky? leaking?) on the BP6. Possibly the PSU (capacitors, beware of high voltage) and the harddisk cables. Since you run the HDs on the Promise, I guess you can't blame the HPT366. But check the temperatures (dtemp), like KliK suggested. Per...

I figure this should go here becasue i don't want to make a whole new topic for this. sorry if it does bring up a long dead topic. I have a sort of wattmeter thing and i tried my BP6 on it. It's built onto an AC inverter for running 120VAC electronics off of car batteries and such. It has a wattage...

I've had trouble with several Seagate drives on the HPT366 (U7, Barracuda IV, Barrcuda 7200.7, 5400.1). Freezes, corrupted data etc. Fujitsu, WD and Samsung drives worked nicely. Obviously you don't have that kind of trouble. But I'd like to know what type of Seagate drive you are using... is it on ...

I agree on the bad performance of the C3. But they are interesting because they need much less power than dual Celerons. Passive cooling shouldn't be an issue. BUT the newer C3 chips need Tualatin-compatible boards. So I guess they would not work on the BP6. I still fail to see the point? Want to u...

I have a PSU of the SFX-standard (40mm shorter). 70W +5V - 10A +3.3V - 6A +12V - 1.5A These days those currents are ridiculously little. But it was apparently enough for an AMD K6-2 @ 400Mhz and a Fujitsu PII/III Slot-1 with PIII @ 500Mhz. But is it enough for a BP6 with 2x400 with one hdd? Don't e...

Re: Problems with IDE 3&4 ports for ATA 66.
I've been running my BP6 on the IDE1 port for about 4-1/2 months now. With a 40 conductor cable and a 6.4 GB 5400 rpm ST36421A hard drive ( Seagate ). I found out that this hard drive supports ATA 66 speeds, and the IDE 1&2 ports are only for ATA 33 speeds. So I went and got an 80 conductor cable a...

My BP6 is my main desktop. Use it for office work. I'm a freelancing radio journalist, I write short pieces of text and fax/mail them to the studio. I do audio editing usually on another machine, which I also use to produce ugly electronic noise that might turn into music some lucky day. I use MS Of...

You might have problems with your PCI or IDE components if you use a higher FSB than 75 MHz, which means PCI and IDE bus are already overclocked to 37,5 MHz. The BP6 uses the 1/2 divider up to... 91 MHz FSB, IIRC. So you'd have to use at least 92 MHz FSB with a 1/3 divider to get the PCI/IDE clock d...
