I'm not sure if it's possible, but I was hoping that in the case where you were using a video card that couldn't do hardware FSAA the driver could do FSAA on one CPU and the normal operations it would do without running FSAA on the other CPU. In this way any game, even single-threaded would still be...

Do ATI drivers make use of SMP?
I've searched trhough the forums but I can't find an answer to this question that is recent: I found a post that said they're NOT optimised for SMP but the post was over a year old. So, I thought I'd ask the question again: Do ATI drivers make use (or are optimised for) SMP? By this I simply mean: a...

I may leave out the SMD stuff - those resistors are too tiny. If I do end up doing it, it will be after lots of practice on stuff that doesn't matter if I stuff it up :D I'm just going to replace all the caps first and if all that goes well, I may give the other stabilisation mods a go (that will pr...

It sounds to me like it's bad voltage regulation on the 3.3V line. You can do mods to fix this. Yoichiro's BP6 Modification Guide does exactly that: http://geta.yoh-tech.com/bp6/eng_analisys.htm I'm building up another BP6 system but before I do anything (even buying the rest of the parts - second C...

I just found this page:

Bulging caps are always a very bad sign - even if they're a little bit bulging they're not working as they should and won't be smoothing out voltage fluctuations like they should. The bad caps that Abit used around the time of the BP6 and BE6 motherboards were actually cheap knock-offs that somehow ...

www.2cpu.com used to have a huge database of programs that utilised SMP but I can't find it at the moment.
The xine movie player (I use it under Linux) is completely multi-threaded for SMP action.

I found that NFS Hot Pursuit 2 was playable as were both NOLF games (1 and 2) with my Winfast Geforce 256 SDR card. Just got a 64MB Radeon 8500 but haven't had time to try it yet. I also found Quake 3 Arena was playable (and actually faster under Linux :D ), benched around 60 - 70fps at 1024 x 768 1...

If you want to underclock your celerons try a program CPUFSB found here: http://www.cpufsb.de/CPUFSB.HTM tell it you have an Abit BP6 and see if you can set the FSB to less than 66MHz (say 60MHz or 50) I haven't tried this on my BP6 (it's currently in peaces on my kitchen table :D ) but it let me se...

This isn't really on the topic, but to reset your BIOS without opening your case (the following actually only resets the settings in the SoftMenu II menu) * turn the system off * hold the home key while you press the power button (on the case) * keep holding the home key down until the POST screen a...

Try looking for a Tyan motherboard - they have no overclocking options but are rock stable. This probably isn't what you're looking for though because they will give you virtually ZERO overclocking capabilities. [I know... I know... I know... It's blasfamous to even mention motherboards that don't a...

It sounds to me like the BIOS you have is missing the appropriate Tualatin microcode so it can't identify it and can't use it in more than real-mode. To add the microcode follow the directions here: http://www.frogge.de/pepper/bmreport1.html I've done a similar procedure for the AOpen AX6BC and it w...

The HPT366 controller should be able to handle drives up to and including 137GB but no greater because it doesn't have 48bit addressing. For drives bigger than that you will need an ATA-133 controller (or perhaps some boot utility made by your hard disk manufacturer that fools the HPT366 bios into w...
The card is a no-name ATA-100 controller with a CMD649 chipset on there (made by Silicon Image). I have one the same (mine is made by STLabs) in my BP6 and have had no problems with it under both Windows XP and Linux (Slackware 9.0). You can find out about the chipset here (download new drivers, gra...
