YippeeKyeYay!!!
Whole lotta people here from Nebraska, now. I was hatched and educated there. Been livin' in Minneapolis for thirty years now. Nebraska is a good place to be from but I'm glad I don't still live there.

KliK, I can't clearly picture how your set-up is currently configured. It does not make sense to me when you say you have "enabled a wireless network with encryption" and yet you talk as if you do not yet have a wireless router. Wireless routers typically have (5) hardwire connectors. One connector ...

Re: My BP6 died. :(
: Anyway, I have available a pair of lapped 366 with matching FEP32 HSFs. Also an extra 366 and a 500 that are not lapped. If anyone needs caps maybe I can pull them(all look excelent) and send them, or the entire board. I have a spare nic or 2, and can lay my hands on an extra 128MB PC-100 as well...

Check out http://www.computekinc.us/prod01.htm . Although you will be required to order a package of both 1000 uF and 1500 uF capacitance each in the 8x20 mm or 8x16 mm size (20 pcs/pkg), you will only pay shipping once for up to one pound so the price is still reasonable. The rated voltage must be ...

I didn't know that the problem was isolated to only that particular BIOS. I don't know if the "files upload" forum feature here has been fixed but it was problematic at one time. I will attempt to add the file as an attachment to this message. If that does not work, contact me using the e-mail addre...

ulutas, I agree with your findings regarding the performance of HPT 1.25 versus HPT 1.28. HPT 1.25 will "generally" provide the best performance. Certainly, one's individual results will vary depending on the make and model of hard drive, so the performance difference is not always as significant as...

BUT there is AFAIK no BIOS that supports large disks. 48bit-LBA support is given through the Microsoft IDE driver (atapi.sys) supplied with Windows, at least if you have XP SP1 or SP2 installed. Wolfram, The above statements are quite misleading. System BIOS's which support 48-bit addressing DO exi...

@InactiveX, While I can't easily rule out a problem with capacitors, I'm also not ready to believe that bad capacitors are the cause of ALL strange problems that arise with motherboards. A visual inspection suggests that the capacitors present are not in "great" condition, but they are in better con...

KliK, It is nice to see you again after a long absence. I don't know how much money you have to spend, but my best suggestion is for you to purchase a used ATA 100 drive card in addition to your new drive. I recommend a Promise "Ultra ATA/100" card. The reasons for my suggestion are these: 1) To the...

O.T. : Need Help with a Problem SA-6
I know that this forum is devoted to our beloved BP-6's, so please forgive my asking for help with an SA-6. I value the knowledgeable input from members here. I have an unusual problem with an Abit SA-6 that is driving me insane. This SA-6 motherboard lapses into an unbootable state 10-30 minutes af...

jaybird, Does the board have an ISA slot? I once had success troubleshooting an old mobo by putting an ISA video card in it. An ISA video card can often display even when PCI and AGP cannot. It is my belief that the Linux kernel uses a software sector translation scheme with the HPT366 (similar to an Ontrack Systems approach) since no firmware BIOS exists for this controller that provides for large LBA (48 bit) required to support large capacity drives. I suspect that all disk I/O for t...

Hi. I'm somewhat confused by the discussion referenced by your link. That discussion seems to say that you (or somebody else) is attempting to use an 800 MHz Celeron on a BP6. The CPU sockets on a BP6 are designed for PPGA Celeron CPU's ( 300 MHz - 533 MHz ). The discussion does not mention an adapt...

sagonzal, Perhaps more information would help. What is the name of the manufacturer and model number of the PPGA-to-FC-PGA adapter that you are using? The CPU socket closest to the RAM seems to work best for most people with similar situations. Which socket are you attempting to use? Best Regards, s4

I'm not certain what you mean when you refer to a "slip streamed" version of XP. It sounds like you are trying to install some manner of image. I do not believe that an image created on a uniprocessor machine will be compatible on a BP6 with (2) processors. I think that a deployable image for a mult...

Uploading Files?
Is it still possible to upload files for the files archive?
I tried to upload a BIOS file and it did not appear to work.
The upload function would not let me choose any category other than "Misc." and the process did not seem to work.
Should I make another attempt?
Best Regards,
s4

I believe that both the o/s and the controller that the drive is attached to must support 48-bit LBA for proper operation. I think you are headed for trouble unless you add a controller card which is known to be "48-bit LBA capable". Search the topics here. I seem to remember some mention of add-in ...
